A career of one's own

Instead of "A Room of One's Own" (Virginia Woolf), Noble says "A Career of One's Own."

Professor Noble career background as scholar begins when she was an adolescent and went to study in Canada on her own. It was in Canada that she gained values of freedom and detachment from her family background to secure intellectual independent thinking. While she was studying in Canada, she worked for a living and to get cash. She taught kids as school teacher, worked as TV show producer and presenter and gained a scholarship to study at the University of Ottawa. In 1989,she became a Canadian citizen by affirming her loyalty and allegiance to Canada and Her Majesty Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada. In 1990, she moved to Cambridge in Massachusetts to earn another graduate degree. She worked in Germany and in 1998 she received a EU scholarship to continue her doctoral studies. While in London and before she finished her Ph.D., she was invited to Austria where she worked as visiting professor. After finishing her PhD. she received a new very competitive scholarship and did her post-doctoral research in Helsinki. In 2007, she presented her work at a conference in Cambridge University in the U.K. and colleagues from the U.S. became very impressed with her research. They invited her for a position as faculty in Connecticut. This career step in the U.S. was an adventure but she accepted the challenge. She walked straight from the plane to the recruitment process to be interviewed with the jet-lag of five hours from London and in the same day, she did presentations and taught demo classes. Noble was hired immediately and in 2012, she gained promotion and tenure. In 2013, the tenured faculty job did not offer conditions for career growth and was not intellectually attractive. She stepped out of academia to reflect on her personal aims.  In 2014, Noble accepted other new assignments to secure her income and she comes back as an independent scholar in 2025. Currently she is self-employed and affiliated with Harvard University in the U.S. She has assignments in the European Union, England and North America.
